Sometimes baths are fun with a side of eco-friendly, biodegradable, sustainably-sourced and vegan/cruelty-free.
At what point the ritual of bathtime stopped being about fun and started being about function, I can’t say. I’m pragmatically anti-bathbomb. I’d be hard-pressed to bathe with a soap bar. I say no to foam, bubblebaths having been foresaken some time ago for practicalities like salt, sage, oil, and wine (a favorite “detox”). While bathing can be indulgent and wasteful, the purist in me sees no benefit to steaming in dye and glitter. When does growing up become about trading out?
Then, my “omggg?” moment: watching an Azalea bath bomb turn my tub into unicorn water. Enter Kaleidosoaps, a brand that’s saying ‘yes’ to bathtime, in an eco-conscious, biodegradable, and sustainably-sourced, vegan and cruelty-free way. From the strawberry-seed stars of Nebula Soap Bar, to the suggestive lavender-jelly of Save Water, Shower With Me, to the vanilla-cashmere and oak charcoal-sexy of Black Star Shower Gel (I’ve used everyday since being sent by Kaleidosoaps founder David)— it’s certainly one of the funnest baths (alone) I’ve ever had, or that I can remember, definitely one of the best fragranced. The experience has me recalling a time when “pure” meant “play” and free of mind.
By and large, Kaleidosoaps isn’t dye, sulfate, or synthetic-fragrance-free— if it were, it’d be in another category of naturals altogether. That’s not what their promise is, and that’s okay. What Kaleidosoaps is promising is the thing brands often aim for but rarely reach: an invitation to a self-care that’s all at once fragrant and responsible and lighthearted. While others try to push the needle, it’s clear Kaleidosoaps is actually doing something modern, and something fun.
