My ultimate resource to living 80/20 on a 100 Beauty Life.
Learning the lengths an athlete or actor will go to perform at the top of their game has always been a fascination of mine. Be it the Olympics, or preparing for a role, a major movie or performance, oftentimes the commitment to their craft is so great, it means they alter their schedules, their lifestyles and their diets.
In a similar way as a makeup artist, makeup is my sport and my face my business card, so I take care accordingly. When you’re committed to looking and feeling your best, you’ll try anything and everything.
It wasn’t until Team Charlotte Tilbury, however, that I started to hear a name again and again, and stopped to ignore the diet-to-skin connection. Both Tilbury and Dr. Nigma Talib share and refer a roster of celebrity clientele infamous for their five-star skin and healthy good looks: it girls like Rosie Huntington-Whitley, Sienna Miller, Penelope Cruz, Kate Bosworth, Stella McCartney, and more.
Curiosity got the best of me and I finally asked who this “Dr. Enigma” is (and why all the good drag names have to be taken). Paraphrasing, but a former mentor and Tilbury assistant informed me, “Everyone on the team sees Dr. Nigma. She’s life-changing.”
An accredited and acclaimed naturopathic doctor and aesthetician, Dr. Talib is a truth-seeker in health and beauty, her practice combining holistic health and aesthetics:
“Dr. Nigma Talib is a world-renowned naturopathic doctor, aesthetician and leading authority on holistic health. She has opened clinics in the UK, US and Canada, and currently has a clinic in [Los Angeles].
Her unique approach combines natural and complementary therapies such as acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine and homeopathy with innovative laboratory testing, nutritional biochemistry, internal support and pioneering face treatments. With this holistic and bespoke approach to each client, she works to identify, address and heal underlying causes of disease rather than simply suppressing symptoms. Her areas of expertise range from premature aging and chronic skin problems to digestive complaints, infertility, hormonal disorders and sleep disorders.”

In a way, Talib’s teachings have become the answer to almost every beauty question ever asked. Her approachable advice is a guide— not just to mindful eating, but mindful living— I like to think of as practicing 80/20 on a 100 beauty life. This is my go-to wellness resource: from Leaky Gut, to her “Clear, Correct, Protect” 3-step program, diet and well-being, supplementing, recipes, skincare, and more. Reverse the Signs of Aging, and her later edition, Younger Skin Starts in the Gut, are an exercise in living consciously, a tell-all guide that puts you in the “driver’s seat of your health.”
At least, it has for me and my clients. It’s a gift when we carry the wisdom of a book beyond its last page.
Next you’re in LA or London, pay her a visit.
Being a sass master and having a Big Fat “ethnic” legal name myself (ask me about it sometime, and my problem with the word “ethnic”), I hope Dr. Nigma forgives my “joke” on 'all the best drag names’ being taken. “Dr. Enigma” would make an excellent one, but it was meant in jest and Nigma is a beautiful name. Jokes aren’t serious but names and feelings always are. <3
