Hybrid formulas are a recent phenomenon appearing on shelves these last few years: skincare that acts like makeup and makeup that acts like skincare, challenging boundaries, and promising to simplify and change our lives in the process (e.g. BB cream anyone?). Continuum by Elysian Cosmetics is a luxury finishing treatment that is at home in both worlds, laying comfortably between skincare and makeup, innovating where moisturizer leaves off and makeup begins.
For one, it’s snob-proof… or snob-welcoming. Continuum’s beauty and grace— from its packaging to its formula— promises the freedom of ‘yes’, inclusivity, diversity, the celebration of uniqueness, all while being deliciously excessive and cutting-edge, making it so American in all the right ways.
For the brand, taste-making means simplicity meets opulence. Continuum is created without:
It appeals to even the most selective of tastes.
What is in the formula is decadent: Skincare heroes hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and high-grade silicones¹ hydrate, plump and protect, creating an occlusive last layer that locks in moisture, while filling in pores and fine lines and extending the wear of makeup. Skin looks instantly blurred almost like a filter in real life. Gel-cream in texture, and airlessly, lightlessly housed in a modern cylinder container, Continuum is designed with consistency and longevity in mind.
But where others stop at definition primer (see paragraph above), Continuum goes further: red algae and proven peptides like Matrixyl-3000 boost collagen while wearing— as in, a visible lift in volume. The best frill: Continuum even relaxes facial features thanks to peptide Argireline. What I’m saying is it hydrates, protects, smooths, blurs, lifts, AND numbs, like Botox in a bottle, while making makeup last longer. Yeah.
As expected, this comes at no surprise since I know the creators personally². David and Michael are friends and fixtures here in the New York City beauty scene, and very on brand when it comes to my inner circle: they are cosmetic-obsessed brats (like me), who are determined to make a difference all while having excellent tastes along the way (especially in makeup artist). They never settle, as evidenced by their innovation, which Continuum lives up to and more. It’s not everyday you know a person who wades into entrepreneurial waters, let alone two, and sails as smoothly and as game-changingly as Continuum does. I am so proud of them both and can’t wait to see what comes next.
¹—silicones, creators David and Michael have told me, are friendly to all skins, including acneic. Work with your dermatologist and best judgement, but when it comes to high-grade silicones, I would agree.
² I am not endorsed by Elysian Cosmetics, and I am not paid to use or write about Elysian Cosmetics, Continuum, and David and Michael. They did ask me for a few words or thoughts on Continuum, but their product is so good they didn’t have to.
